Hearing tests and diagnosis
Is the hearing test really free?
Yes. Your first hearing test at Prudent Hearing Solutions is free, takes about 45 minutes, and comes with no obligation to buy anything. It is a proper clinical assessment run by an RCI-registered audiologist, and you leave with your results on an audiogram and a written report. If your hearing turns out to be fine, you simply go home reassured at no charge.
What happens during a hearing test?
It has five parts: a short history chat, an otoscopy to look inside your ear, pure-tone audiometry in a quiet room where you respond to soft beeps, a speech check to see how clearly you understand words, and your results explained on an audiogram before you leave. It is painless and takes about 45 minutes.
How do I know if I need a hearing test?
Common signs are turning the TV up louder than others prefer, asking people to repeat themselves, struggling to follow conversation in noisy places, trouble on phone calls, and ringing in the ears. Adults over 60, anyone with diabetes, and people who have worked around loud noise should test even without obvious symptoms, because hearing usually fades slowly.
Do you offer advanced tests beyond a standard hearing test?
Yes. Each clinic is a full diagnostic centre. Alongside pure-tone audiometry, we offer tympanometry, speech audiometry, and advanced tests such as BERA/ABR, OAE, VEMP and ECochG for complex inner-ear and balance cases, plus tinnitus assessment. Where a problem is clearly medical, we also refer you to the right ENT or specialist.
Can you test a baby's or child's hearing?
Yes. We offer newborn and infant screening (OAE and BERA/ABR) and hearing tests for children using age-appropriate methods. Early identification matters for speech and language, so if you have any concern about your child's hearing, it is worth checking rather than waiting. Call +91 9429690093 to arrange an assessment.
Hearing aids: choosing and fitting
Do hearing aids cure hearing loss?
No. Hearing aids manage hearing loss, they do not cure it or restore your hearing to what it was. What a well-fitted aid does, when programmed to your audiogram, is make sound clearer and conversation easier to follow. We are upfront about this so you know what to expect.
Which hearing aid brands do you fit?
We are brand-neutral and fit all the major manufacturers, including Signia, Phonak, Oticon, Widex, ReSound, Starkey and Unitron. Because we work across brands rather than one, the recommendation follows your hearing loss, ear shape and budget instead of a single catalogue.
Can I try a hearing aid before buying?
Yes. Once your test shows a hearing aid would help and you choose one, you can try it in the clinic before you decide, so you hear the difference for yourself. The aid is programmed to your audiogram and verified, rather than left on a generic setting, so the trial reflects how it will actually perform for you.
Do I need one hearing aid or two?
If both ears have an aidable loss, two aids usually help more than one: better understanding in noise, a sense of where sound comes from, balanced and more natural sound, and less listening effort. One aid can be right for one-sided or asymmetric cases, or as a budget-now step. Your audiogram and an in-clinic trial should decide.
How long do hearing aids take to get used to?
Most people adjust over a few weeks. Sounds you had not heard clearly for years can feel sharp at first, which is normal, and your brain gradually relearns them. Follow-up tuning appointments fine-tune the settings during this period, and programming stays free for the life of aids we fit.
Cost, finance and schemes
How much do hearing aids cost in India?
Prices depend on the technology inside, not just the shell. As a rough guide per ear, entry digital models start lower and premium AI models cost more. Hearing aids are GST-exempt in India, and through us you can get up to 30 to 50 percent off the manufacturer's MRP. See our pricing page for current figures, and we confirm your exact price after the free test.
Do you offer EMI or instalments?
Yes. Hearing aids are available on 0% EMI, so the cost can spread over several months with no interest added. Bring a card that supports EMI and we set it up at the clinic. Hearing aids are also GST-exempt in India, so no tax is added on top.
Are there government schemes for hearing aids?
Yes. Schemes such as ADIP provide hearing aids free or subsidised for eligible people who hold a valid disability certificate. Eligibility and benefits are decided by the government, and rules change, so confirm the current position with the issuing authority. We can do the hearing test and audiogram that support an application.
Is the first hearing test really free with no catch?
Yes. The 45-minute assessment, the audiogram and the written report cost nothing, whether or not you go on to buy anything. Plenty of people come in, learn their hearing is fine, and go home having spent nothing.
Ear problems and symptoms
What should I do about ear wax?
Do not dig into your ear with cotton buds, pins or ear cleaners, as this pushes wax deeper and can damage the eardrum. If your ear feels blocked, an audiologist can check it and, if needed, remove wax safely. If you also wear hearing aids, a wax check is worth doing when sound becomes muffled or the aid starts to whistle.
I have ringing in my ears (tinnitus). Can you help?
Yes. Tinnitus often has no single cure, but it can very often be managed so it stops bothering you. The evidence-based options include treating any hearing loss with well-fitted aids, sound therapy, tinnitus retraining therapy and support for the distress. No tablet or supplement is proven to cure it. Start with a hearing test to find the cause.
My ear is painful or discharging. Can an audiologist treat it?
An active ear infection needs a doctor or ENT for the right medicated treatment, so please see one promptly for pain, discharge or swelling. As an audiology team, our role is the hearing side: once the infection settles, we can check whether your hearing has been affected, especially if the ear stays blocked or muffled.
Why can I hear people but not understand them?
This is common, especially with inner-ear or age-related loss, and it shows up on a speech test even when tones seem passable. It usually means your clarity, not just your volume, has dropped. Well-fitted hearing aids restore audibility and help a lot, though they cannot fully fix poor word discrimination. A hearing test with speech audiometry shows exactly what is happening.
