A free 45-minute hearing test in South Mumbai at Prudent's Malabar Hill clinic, opposite Babulnath Temple. What the test covers, and how to book without a long wait.
If you live in South Mumbai, getting your hearing checked should not mean a half-day trip across the city. Prudent's Malabar Hill clinic sits on the first floor of Sadguru Sadan, opposite Babulnath Temple, within easy reach of Walkeshwar, Grant Road, Charni Road and Marine Lines. The hearing test is free, takes about 45 minutes, and is done by an RCI-registered audiologist.
What the free hearing test covers
A proper assessment is more than a quick beep test. At Prudent, the appointment runs roughly in this order:
- A short conversation about where you struggle to hear and any ear symptoms.
- Otoscopy: a painless look into each ear canal and at the eardrum.
- Pure tone audiometry: headphones for air conduction, then a small vibrator for bone conduction.
- Speech testing: how clearly you follow words, not just whether you hear sound.
- A plain explanation of your audiogram and sensible next steps.
If you want the test explained in depth first, read our guide to the PTA test (pure tone audiometry). Not sure you need a test at all? Our online hearing screening is a useful 2-minute first step.
Booking without the wait
The simplest way to avoid a wait is to book a slot rather than walk in, especially mid-morning or after lunch on weekdays, which tend to be quieter. Bring a list of your medicines, any earlier audiograms or ENT reports, and your hearing aids if you already wear them. Leave your ear wax alone before the visit; the audiologist will check and, if wax is blocking the canal, advise on safe removal before testing.
If you need hearing aids
If the test shows a loss, you can try aids from all eight major brands before buying, with up to 20–30% off MRP, 0% EMI, and the GST exemption that applies to all hearing aids. There is never pressure to buy on the day. See the clinic details on the Malabar Hill page.
