Auracast is the new Bluetooth broadcast feature built into 2026's premium hearing aids — letting you tune into an airport announcement or a silent TV the way you join Wi-Fi. Here is what it does, which aids have it, and the honest truth about where you can actually use it in India today.

Auracast is a new kind of Bluetooth that lets one transmitter broadcast sound to an unlimited number of listeners at once, so your hearing aids can tune into a public audio feed — an airport announcement, a theatre stage, a silent gym TV — the way you join a Wi-Fi network. It is built into many of 2026's premium hearing aids.

But here is the honest part most ads skip: in India there is almost nowhere to use it yet. Treat Auracast as useful future-proofing if you are already buying a top-tier aid, not as a reason on its own to spend more, and never as a substitute for good noise performance and a proper fitting.

What is Auracast, in plain terms?

Auracast is a broadcast feature of Bluetooth LE Audio, the newer and more power-efficient version of Bluetooth. Instead of privately pairing one device to one phone, a venue runs an Auracast transmitter that sends audio out to everyone nearby. Any compatible hearing aid, earbud or pair of headphones can join that broadcast — often by scanning a QR code at the spot or picking the stream from a list, much like choosing a Wi-Fi network.

Three things make it genuinely useful for hearing aid wearers. It carries clean audio straight into your ears, so you hear the announcement or the film without the room's echo and background noise fighting it. It serves unlimited listeners at once, so a whole cinema or airport gate can use it together. And it works across brands — any Auracast hearing aid can join any Auracast broadcast, whatever logo is on it.

How is it different from the Bluetooth my hearing aids already have?

The Bluetooth in current aids is one-to-one: you pair your aids to your own phone and stream your calls, music or TV from that single device. Auracast is one-to-many and public: the source is a venue's transmitter, not your phone, and many strangers' devices can tune into the same feed at the same time. Think of classic Bluetooth as a private phone call, and Auracast as a radio station you choose to listen to.

The catch is the hardware. Auracast needs Bluetooth LE Audio with broadcast capability built into the chip. It is not a software update you can add to older aids — if your current aids were bought before about 2024, they almost certainly cannot do Auracast no matter what the app suggests. That is why it appears only on the newest models.

Where can you actually use Auracast right now?

Globally, the rollout is real but early, and led by airports. Frankfurt Airport began broadcasting gate announcements over Auracast in January 2026, starting with two gates; Munich Airport followed with its own pilot from July 2026. Beyond airports, venues such as St Paul's Cathedral in London and a central theatre in Oslo have demonstrated it, and churches and theatres across several US states are early adopters. Industry forecasts (ABI Research) expect roughly 1.5 million public venues worldwide to be Auracast-enabled by 2029.

India is not on that map yet. As of late 2026 there are no confirmed Auracast broadcasts at Indian airports, cinemas, stations or auditoriums — the technology is being marketed to Indian buyers as a coming benefit, not a working one. International accessibility standards for Auracast are not expected until 2027, so venue adoption here will be gradual and patchy even after that. In day-to-day life in Pune, Mumbai, Delhi or Bengaluru today, there is essentially nothing to tune into.

Which hearing aids support Auracast in 2026?

Only aids built on Bluetooth LE Audio with broadcast hardware qualify, which in practice means the premium 2026 launches. Even among those, there is a difference between Auracast working the day you buy and Auracast being switched on later by a firmware update — a distinction worth asking about.

  • Oticon's 2026 flagship ships with LE Audio and Auracast working from day one.
  • The ReSound Sensia has full LE Audio and Auracast support active at launch across its receiver-in-canal and wireless custom styles (the tiny CIC is the exception).
  • Signia's newest premium aids have the Auracast hardware built in, with full broadcast support arriving through a firmware update expected around early 2027.
  • Other brands are adding LE Audio broadcast to their top tiers through 2026 and 2027 — the only reliable way to know is to check the exact model at fitting.

For the wider picture of what launched this year, see our newest hearing aids of 2026 roundup. If your real interest is streaming from your own phone or fixing a dropped connection, that is ordinary Bluetooth — covered in our Bluetooth hearing aids guide for India and the phone-connection troubleshooting guide.

Should you pay extra for Auracast in India today?

No — not as a feature in its own right. Because there is nowhere in India to broadcast into your aids yet, paying a premium specifically for Auracast in 2026 buys a capability you cannot use for some years. That money is better spent on the things that change your hearing every single day: how well the aid separates speech from noise, how well it is fitted to your audiogram, and the aftercare behind it.

The sensible way to think about it is the other way round. If you are already choosing a premium 2026 aid for its sound and noise performance, and it happens to include LE Audio and Auracast hardware, that is a genuine bonus — you are future-proofed at no real extra cost for the day Indian venues catch up.

Buy the aid for how it sounds now; let Auracast be the free head-start, not the reason. Our honest take on timing is in should you buy now or wait for 2026 AI aids.

What to ask before you buy, if Auracast matters to you

  • Does this exact model have Bluetooth LE Audio with broadcast hardware — not just classic Bluetooth?
  • Is Auracast active now, or does it need a future firmware update, and if so, when?
  • Does it still stream from my own phone and TV today, which is the connectivity I will actually use?
  • Is my phone compatible, and will I need any extra accessory?

The first question is the one that catches people out. 'Bluetooth' on a spec sheet does not mean Auracast; only LE Audio with broadcast does. Our audiologists will tell you plainly which of the aids we fit have it and which do not.

The bottom line for Indian buyers

Auracast is a real and genuinely good step forward for hearing in public spaces, and it will matter here eventually. In 2026 India, though, it is a feature waiting for the venues to arrive. Choose your hearing aid on the sound it gives you today; welcome Auracast as future-proofing if it comes built in, and ignore any sales pitch that puts it front and centre.

At Prudent Hearing Solutions we fit eight brands and are not tied to any one of them, so we can show you honestly which 2026 models include LE Audio and Auracast, and which aid actually suits your hearing and budget. Frequently asked questions

Can I use Auracast in India right now?

In almost no public place yet. As of late 2026 there are no confirmed Auracast broadcasts at Indian airports, cinemas, stations or auditoriums — the global rollout is led by venues like Frankfurt and Munich airports, not India. You can already use the underlying Bluetooth LE Audio to stream from your own phone or TV if both devices support it, but public Auracast broadcasts here are still some years away.

Do my current hearing aids support Auracast?

Only if they have Bluetooth LE Audio with broadcast hardware built in, which in practice means premium models from roughly 2024 onwards. Auracast cannot be added to older aids by a software update — the chip has to support it. If your aids are a few years old, they almost certainly cannot do Auracast, whatever the app shows. Check the exact model with your audiologist.

Is Auracast the same as Bluetooth?

It is a new part of Bluetooth, not the old one. The Bluetooth your aids use now is one-to-one: you pair to your own phone and stream from that single device. Auracast is one-to-many broadcast over the newer Bluetooth LE Audio standard — a venue transmits and many people tune in at once, like choosing a Wi-Fi network. 'Bluetooth' on a spec sheet does not mean Auracast; only LE Audio with broadcast does.

Which 2026 hearing aids have Auracast?

The premium 2026 launches, though with a catch worth asking about: some have it working from day one, others switch it on later by firmware. Oticon's 2026 flagship and the ReSound Sensia have full Auracast active at launch, while Signia's newest premium aids have the hardware ready with full support expected around early 2027. Other brands are adding it to their top tiers — confirm the exact model at fitting.

Should I wait for Auracast before buying a hearing aid?

No. Auracast only works where a venue has installed a transmitter, and in India that barely exists yet, so delaying real help for a feature you cannot use here is a poor trade. Buy the aid for how it sounds and handles noise today; if it happens to include LE Audio and Auracast hardware, treat that as free future-proofing rather than the reason to buy.
